ecoBiz
The Sanctuary is proud to be part of ecoBiz, a program of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), designed to help businesses implement and sustain environmentally friendly practices.
Our aim in joining the ecoBiz program is to become the Gold Coasts’ leading environmental business. By being a
'green leader' we aim to not only implement environmentally friendly workplace practices, but to also educate the community on why and how we made the changes. We endeavor to educate our visitors about the importance of caring for both the environment and our wildlife.
Our mission is to ensure that the electricity and water used within the Sanctuary, as well as wastage, is significantly reduced through all departments within the Sanctuary working together.
The Sanctuary has already implemented a number of environmentally friendly workplace practices:- Paper is recycled to make writing pads and to provide bedding for injured and misplaced animals at the Community Wildlife Hospital
- Food scraps within the Food and Beverage and Wildlife Departments are mulched and used for compost
- Uneaten koala food (eucalyptus leaves) are used in our aviaries and mulched for the Sanctuary’s garden beds
- A number of water saving strategies are implemented within the Sanctuary
