History: Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Queensland’s oldest tourist parks with a rich history of creating wonderful memories for many Australians. Established in 1947 by our founder Alex Griffiths, our park is able to offer excellent history lessons to share information about its foundation and growth over the years.
As part of your History Booking, we will send you “A Man of Vision” DVD to show to your students in your classroom as a pre-visit activity. This 20 minute documentary is a biography of Alex Griffiths and reveals a story about his life, his foresight and passion for animals. Then, when you visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, our education officers will deliver a PowerPoint education lesson to your students which highlight historical photos, maps and engagement with the local community. Accompany this with our Aboriginal Appreciation Experience (below) and your CWS history lesson will cover the indigenous culture and early settlement here on the Gold Coast.
Find out more about our History program by downloading the information and booking sheet then fax back to (07) 5598 1764.
Minibeasts: This presentation is delivered by an experienced Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Education Officer who will bring out the invertebrates one by one and deliver information about each species. We will teach various topics on request, including: Habitat, Life Cycles, Life Span as well as fun facts like name, age and favourite food!
Your booking also includes a visit to Super Bee Honeyworld which is conveniently located directly across the road from Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (a one minute walk from our front gate). This session will include seeing the “wall of bees”, learning about the Queen bee and her drones and a Live Bee Show performed by one of the experienced bee keepers.

Prep/Kindergarten: Teachers have the option to pick either the popular Educational Presentation (information above) or our Words in the Wildlife Program. During the Words in the Wild Program our Education Officer will read Possum Magic by Mem Fox. Children will use emerging understandings to predict and make meanings from this text. Children will also have the opportunity to meet a few animals from the story; including a possum!
