Australian Wildlife Tourism Conference @ Currumbin

Following on from previous conferences in Fremantle and Hobart,
the 3rd Australian Wildlife Tourism Conference will be co-hosted and held at the world famous Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast, Queensland from Wednesday 1 – Friday 3 September 2010.

Conference Theme

Wild Benefits has been selected as the conference theme to explore the diversity of positive impacts that are produced by sustainable wildlife tourism. In addition it will also examine and discuss the strategies designed to achieve and maintain them.

Who Should Attend

Due to the inter-disciplinary nature of the conference theme we invite a wide range of academics, tourism professionals, wildlife managers, business operators and government personnel to submit an abstract for presentation. Both oral and poster presentations are welcome.
We particularly encourage tertiary students and PhD researchers to take part in this event.

Segway Safaris

Segway Safaris

Imagine gliding gently, virtually silently through the lush surroundings of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.  Well, you dream is about to become a reality.

Riding a Segway feels like nothing you’ve experienced – because there’s never been anything like it. Plus you can experience it as you glide through Currumbin’s natural coastal rainforest and eucalypt environment.

Step on the Segway and you’ll realize the Segway is balancing for you – almost like an extension of you as it intuitively moves in response to where you want to go. It’s natural, safe and instinctive.

Each Segway Safari will cover Currumbin’s extensive Forest Walk, taking in wildlife displays and experiences along the way.

With up to eight people on each Segway Safari, you’ll have your own experienced Segway guide who will get you started and lead the way throughout the tour.

The Segway Safari is also the green way to go in seeing Currumbin – each Segway unit gives off zero emissions while operating and runs on a highly efficient electric system. As a leader in two-wheeled electric mobility, it's always been Segway's vision to produce environmentally friendly short-distance transportation alternatives, ensuring the Segway Safari adds a new dimension to Currumbin’s status as an Advanced Eco-Tourism Certified attraction.

Visitors can start with the 10-minute Eco Fun Experience to learn how to ride the Segways, which have an intuitive steering system which simply goes in whatever direction you lean. Then to take a fully guided tour of the Sanctuary’s vast bushland and rainforest habitats, visitors can upgrade to the 70-minute, Segway Safari.

The tours can be taken by anyone over 10 years old and 45kg in morning, noon or afternoon sessions which can be booked at the Visitor Services desk or online.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Partners With Jetstar Gold Coast Titans

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has joined forces with the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans in an exciting new partnership.

Both organisations share a similar commitment towards providing entertainment and enjoyment for families on the Gold Coast and also promote the region to local, interstate and international markets.

“It’s exciting to be able to form an association with a highly regarded Gold Coast organisation which has a similar family focus and an emphasis on embracing the local community,’’ said Titans managing director Michael Searle.

“This, combined with our interests in eco tourism and environmental awareness through our Titans 4 Tomorrow program makes the partnership a great fit.’’
